Unified CNMI Mayors hold roundtable discussion with local and federal law enforcement

(Press Release) — The Saipan Mayor’s Office hosted a roundtable discussion with key local and federal law enforcement representatives, as well as Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan and Rota Mayor Aubry Hocog, who attended virtually.

Law enforcement representatives included Agent Rick Bauer of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Timothy Israel of the Drug Enforcement Administration; and Commissioner Anthony Macaranas and Captain Olopai of the Department of Public Safety.

The meetings focused on rising instances of violent crime and increased drug-related activities, as discussed from the perspectives of each municipality.

These issues continue to pose significant challenges for community safety, with a key concern being residents’ hesitancy to report crimes due to fear of retaliation or personal reasons.

With the full understanding and cooperation of law enforcement and the Commonwealth’s mayors, this roundtable lays the foundation for an effective, unified partnership to address these challenges head-on. A collective approach empowers residents to come forward and protect their communities.

For questions or more information, contact the Saipan Mayor’s Office at (670) 234-6208. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., including lunch hours.
