“As commissioner of Public Safety, I will have ANYONE arrested for committing a crime regardless of relationship, status or position,” said Mafnas in an email to Variety.
He issued the statement after this reporter asked him if the father of the resigned firefighter who refused a polygraph test is his uncle.
Mafnas did not say if he and the former firefighter, who resigned last July, are related.
“DPS has no information to release at this time on the firefighter. Personnel actions and records are protected. I will consult with the attorney general and [Office of Personnel Management] for proper advice,” Mafnas added.
A source close to the family of the Faloma Quitugua Luhk, 10, and her sister Maleina Quitugua Luhk, 9, who have been missing since May 25, 2011, wants to know if Mafnas took any action after the firefighter refused to undergo a lie detector test.
Variety was told the firefighter’s wife is the aunt of the missing girls.
After the firefighter declined polygraph test, he resigned, and has since reunited with his family in the states.
