A 28 year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend and killing a puppy at their residence in As Perdido on Tuesday night.
Roman Villanueva Cabrera was booked and detained for assault and battery, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Pete C. Muna.
Muna said the 20-year-old woman had injuries on the lip and upper chin area.
Muna said a responding police officer saw the dead puppy inside a bucket.
The victim told the police that Cabrera arrived at their house at 6 p.m. after having a drink at a relative’s house.
The victim and Cabrera were playing with the water hose at the back of the house when the suspect started yelling at her, which resulted in an argument.
When the victim sat on a picnic table, Cabrera allegedly slapped her twice on the face and punched her on the mouth.
A witness told the police that after Cabrera punched the victim, he stepped on the puppy until it died.
When police arrived, the suspect told the officers to arrest him “because it was his fault.”
