ANISIO Sukuna, 51, has been accused of assaulting his stepson with a cleaver knife during an incident reported to the Department of Public Safety on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Sukuna has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, assault, and disturbing the peace.
At a bail hearing on Monday, Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho set Sukuna’s bail at $20,000 cash.
Sukuna, who appeared in court in the custody of the Department of Corrections, was represented by Assistant Public Defender Molly Dennert while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.
Following the hearing, Judge Camacho ordered Sukuna to remain in custody. The judge also scheduled a preliminary hearing for June 18 at 10 a.m., and set an arraignment for June 23 at 9 a.m.
According to the criminal complaint filed against the defendant, police responded to a report of domestic violence and found the victim — Sukuna’s stepson — with blood-covered hands and bloodstains on his pants. The stepson said he had gone to speak with his mother in her room when Sukuna became angry and told him to leave. When the stepson replied, “This is not your place,” he said Sukuna retrieved a cleaver knife from a closet and charged at him.
The victim said he raised his hands to protect himself as Sukuna pushed him with the knife.
He said Sukuna placed the blade near the victim’s neck. The stepson said he grabbed the blade with both hands and pushed it downward, sustaining cuts to his left palm and right thumb. He said he managed to lock Sukuna’s arm, push him away using his shoulder, and escape into his room, where he locked the door and told his brother to call the police.
The victim also had scratches and injuries on his chest. Police likewise observed blood on Sukuna’s forearms, hands, and right foot. The stepson later identified the blood-covered cleaver knife used in the assault.
