Sotero Litulumar Teregeyo, 43, appeared for his arraignment with his counsel, Adam Hardwicke of the Public Defender’s Office.
Litulumar waived the reading of information and his constitutional rights.
Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona set the next hearing for Oct. 1 at 9 a.m.
Teregeyo was charged with conspiracy in arranging a marriage fraud so that his co-defendant 32-year-old Mizanaur Rahman of Chalan Kanoa could get a permanent residency in the CNMI.
Rahman did not appear in court for his arraignment on Aug. 25.
Chief prosecutor Kevin A. Lynch of the Attorney General’s Office filed the information in court charging Teregeyo with one count of conspiracy to commit marriage fraud and one count of marriage fraud.
Lynch said that on Feb. 2005 through May 18, 2005, the two defendants agreed to arrange a marriage between Rahman and Teregeyo’s daughter in order for Rahman to procure an immigrant entry, a naturalization status or an attempt to procure permanent residency in the CNMI or United States.
The complaint stated that Rahman paid Teregeyo a sum of money in exchange for arranging marriage with his daughter.
The complaint said the marriage between Rahman and Teregeyo’s daughter took place on May 18, 2005.
