In yesterday’s bail hearing, Associate Judge Perry B. Inos ordered Lucas Taitano Manglona to post a $500 bail, $250 in cash and $250 in unsecured bond.
The defendant appeared in court with his counsel, Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig. Assistant Attorney General Edward Buckingham represented the government.
Inos set the preliminary hearing for Jan. 22 and the arraignment for Feb. 2.
Detective George Fleming David, in his affidavit, stated that the Department of Public Safety received a call reporting a disturbance complaint in San Vicente at 5:43 p.m. on Jan. 12.
Responding police officers met Manglona and learned from witnesses that the disturbance involved a family dispute between Manglona and his brother.
Manglona told police that his brother had been dealing with drugs and had knowledge of stolen items.
Manglona also claimed that his brother showed him counterfeit bills.
He said his brother gave him a fake $50 bill and told him to buy food, which he did.
Manglona added that his brother gave him another $50 counterfeit bill which he used to purchase a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
The police officers then headed to the store and informed the cashier about the fake $50 bill.
After the cashier identified Manglona as the owner of the counterfeit bill, police arrested him for theft by deception.
Based on the information submitted by the Attorney General’s Office, the defendant has a lengthy court history including convictions for theft, robbery, attempted rape, aggravated assault and battery, and burglary.
