Man arrested in school burglary

Police said Martin Tiamson Castro Jr. was positively identified by the school’s security guard.

A camera was recovered from Castro’s possession, police said.

They responded to a possible burglary in progress at the school at 11:21 a.m., Saturday.

The security guard told Officer Jonathan Decena  that he saw Castro trying to break into Building B’s Classroom No. 5 by removing its metal louvers.

The guard ran toward Castro and shouted at him, who then escaped by scaling the school’s southern fence.

Decena radioed Castro’s description to the Department of Public Safety and other responding units.

Officer Jesse Cepeda was searching the immediate area surrounding the school, when he spotted a man who fit Castro’s description inside a car that was leaving the area.

Cepeda pulled over the car and radioed Decena, who escorted the security guard toward the suspect’s location.

Castro was positively identified by the security guard as the person seen removing the louvers and running away.

The car’s female driver told police that Castro flagged her down and tried to sell the camera to her.

When she declined, she said Castro asked her to drive him toward the highway, where they were pulled over by the police.

After his arrest, Castro was transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
