VINCENT “VJ” Gaza Sanchez, 25, of Susupe appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan last week for alleged child abuse.
Authorities responded to a 911 call on the afternoon of December 7, alleging that Sanchez had repeatedly punched his niece for not cleaning fast enough.
The alleged victim is a minor who described Sanchez as a “good boy” who started smoking “the white thing” that “makes him stupid.”
She described the “white thing” as a glass ball on one end attached to a long pipe-like item in which Sanchez smokes something that looks like sugar and is stored in a Ziploc.
Sanchez is said to have punched the alleged victim three times before asking her if she wanted to be punched a fourth time.
The alleged victim said that Sanchez punched her on the left neck area twice and her upper left cheek once with a closed fist.
He later punched the alleged victim again on the left cheek and told her to clean faster.
This was not the first time that Sanchez had beaten her, the alleged victim said, noting previous incidents where Sanchez had burned her forearm, caused her nose to bleed, and kicked her face.
She said that she informed her parents of the abuse, and they proceeded to leave under the guise of going for a family outing, only to later contact authorities to take Sanchez into custody.
Sanchez’s bail was set to $7,500 and must also pay a $2,0000 fine in addition to serving five years maximum for one count of child abuse to include domestic violence, as per 6CMC 5312 (a)(1) of the Commonwealth Criminal Code.
Judge Bogdan ordered Sanchez to return to court today, Wednesday, at 9 am for a preliminary hearing.
His arraignment is scheduled for January 5.
