T.S. Sachuo appeared in court with his counsel Adam Hardwicke of Public Defender’s Office while the government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Joseph Taijeron.
Sachuo was charged with one count of child abuse, one count of assault and battery, and one count of disturbing the peace.
Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo set the cash bail at $5,000.
If Sachou will post bail, he has to obey all commonwealth and federal laws, return to court whenever required to do so, observe a daily 7 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew and have no contact with the victims.
He is also prohibited from taking any alcoholic beverages, and his travel documents confiscated.
Govendo set the arraignment for Sept. 8 at 9 a.m. and the preliminary hearing for Sept. 4 at 9 a.m.
Detective Andrea C. Ozawa of the Criminal Investigation Division, in her affidavit filed in court, stated that they received a call at about 11:20 p.m. on Aug. 21 regarding an assault and battery incident in Upper MIHA Ville.
Ozawa said police officers immediately responded to the scene and arrested Sachuo. He was brought to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
The victim told police officers that her common-law husband slapped her face and punched her early that morning, and pushed her later that evening.
It was learned that the defendant came home drunk early in the morning.
He shouted at the victim and told her open the door. He then went to the bedroom to sleep.
But their young son was playing in the room and the defendant got mad and slapped the child, the affidavit stated.
It added that when the victim tried to stop the defendant from hurting their child, he slapped her and pushed her head.
When she fell to the floor, the defendant punched her, the affidavit stated.
The victim told police she left their house with her son and came back at around 6 p.m. but what she did not know was the defendant was still mad at her.
She said the defendant started arguing with her so she tried to get away but she was pushed outside the house.
That was when she called the police for assistance. The victim was taken to a women’s shelter.
