Man fires pellet gun at barracks

Superior Court Judge Perry B. Inos retained the $10,000 bail order on Cabrera, who is being held on charges of disturbing the peace, assault and battery, and assault with  a dangerous weapon.

Inos remanded Cabrera to the custody of the Department of Corrections after his initial appearance and bail hearing yesterday.

Assistant Attorney General Peter Prestley represented the government, while the court appointed Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig as Cabrera’s counsel.

Detective Raymond Borja said police were dispatched to a disturbance at the PIC barracks in San Antonio on Oct. 21, 2011, at about 12:03 a.m.

Prior to the incident, Nick Cabrera, the defendant’s son, punched another man at about 11:30 p.m.

Police said the victim’s uncle, who was drinking outside, then pushed Nick Cabrera out of the door, telling him to go home.

Minutes later, Nick Cabrera returned with his father, carrying a pellet gun, and another individual.

Juan Cabrera then started shooting into the barracks, using a pellet gun. One individual was hit in the stomach, Borja said.
