Man gets 14 days for machete attack

Manglona originally sentenced Crisostomo to six months imprisonment, all suspended, except for 14 days with credit for time served at the Department of Corrections facility.

Crisostomo was arrested for attacking Thomas Asack with a machete on Middle Road, and for damaging the vehicle of a passing motorist on Jan. 31, 2010.

After Crisostomo signed a plea agreement,  the Attorney General’s Office requested the dismissal without prejudice of the other charges of assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, criminal contempt of court, and violating an order of protection.

Manglona granted the AGO’s motion.

Crisostomo was ordered to pay a $500 fine, a $100 court assessment fee, a $60 annual probation fee, and $250 restitution for damaging a motorist’s hood and front windshield.

For the duration of his probationary period, Crisostomo will stay away from his victims, will not possess or consume alcohol, and will submit to random blood, breath or urine tests.

Asack sustained bruises described as defense wounds as a result of Crisostomo’s attack, the prosecution stated.

Crisostomo also threatened to kill his victim and damaged the hood and front windshield of a passing motorist who stopped and helped the victim, the prosecution added.

Assistant Attorney General Tiberius D. Mocanu prosecuted the case while Crisostomo was represented by attorney Brian Sers Nicholas.
