Man gets 25 years for sexual abuse of minors

Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona imposed the sentence on Robert K. Shineashi who was arrested on Jan. 15, 2010.

Shineashi appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections for his change of plea hearing yesterday afternoon in Manglona’s courtroom.

Assistant Attorney General William H. Downer prosecuted the case while Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke served as counsel for Shineashi.

The prosecution said Shineashi sexually molested two minors in 2001 and 2008.

Shineashi will be eligible for parole, Manglona said, as she strongly reminded the defendant not to have any contact with his victims while in prison or after his release from prison.

Manglona placed Shineashi on probation for 20 years which will start after his release from prison.

Shineashi was required to pay a $250 fine, a $100 court assessment fee, and a probation fee to be assessed by the Adult Probation Office.

Shineashi will register as a sex offender, and will obey all CNMI and federal laws as well as the rules of the Adult Probation Office.
