During yesterday’s hearing, 55-year-old Norbert Camacho, a former restaurant employee, admitted to the violations and agreed to enter a recovery program instead of going to jail.
Camacho appeared in court with his counsel Robert Torres. The federal government was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric O’Malley.
U.S. District Court for the NMI chief Judge Alex R. Munson ordered Camacho to enter the Lighthouse Recovery Center on Guam on July 17, 2008 for six months or until the recovery center finds him rehabilitated. He was ordered to make arrangements with the probation office, and pay for his own airfare to Guam.
The court also ordered to revoke Camacho’s supervised release for one day and three years to follow with the same conditions previously imposed. If the defendant leaves the program before the appropriate time, the court will take the necessary action to revoke Camacho’s supervised release.
Camacho was indicted with Dina Torres Gonzales for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance in May 2007.
On Oct. 9, 2007, Munson sentenced Camacho to 10 months jail term.
Camacho was to serve a split sentence of five months in prison and five months home confinement under several conditions.
Camacho was also ordered to pay a $3,000 fine after the sentencing, and a special assessment fee of $200.
