Man in Kagman stabbing incident gets 12-month jail term

Associate Judge David A. Wiseman also sentenced Eddie Ngirngesang to five years supervised probation.

Ngirngesang was ordered to pay a fine of $500, and $2,626.48 in restitution for the medical bills incurred by the victim.

He was also ordered to write a letter of apology to the victim, attend recommended counseling, obey all federal and CNMI laws, and serve 120 hours in community work.

Ngirngesang will contact the Community Guidance Center upon his release from the Department of Corrections for an initial evaluation.

Wiseman set the review hearing for Dec. 10, 2008 at 9 a.m.

Ngirngesang entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault and battery on Sept. 17, 2008.

His counsel was George Hasselback while Assistant Attorney General Jeffery Warfield represented the government.

The defendant waived his rights and the court accepted his guilty plea.

Detective Peter A. Aldan, in his affidavit, stated that Ngirngesang committed the crimes of assault with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault and battery at about 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2007 in Kagman.

Police officers who responded to the scene saw Christopher Doses Kin lying on a couch wearing a tank top heavily stained with blood. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds on his chest and lacerations on his right leg.

Aldan said the officers had to press a clean cloth to the victim’s chest to stop the heavy flow of blood. An ambulance was called and the victim was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center emergency room for treatment.

Aldan said that a witness told him that the victim called Ngirngesang to talk with him outside the house but a few minutes later, they were already fighting.

The witness said they tried to interfere because Ngirngesang had a knife.

The witnesses succeeded in pulling the victim away from Ngirngesang but Ngirngesang threw stones at the victim’s car when the Kin was about to leave the place.
