Man ordered to post $1K bail for threatening wife with knife

The other conditions in the order protection also remain in effect.

Sanchez appeared in court with Assistant Public Defender Matthew Holley. Assistant Attorney General Rebecca Warfield appeared on behalf of the government.

Govendo imposed a $100 cash bail and the remaining $900 in unsecured bond on the defendant for charges of assault and battery and for disturbing the peace.

He also ordered the defendant to return to court whenever required, obey all commonwealth laws and not leave CNMI without the court’s permission.

The preliminary hearing was set for Dec. 3, 2008 at 9 a.m. and the arraignment for Dec. 12 at 9 a.m. in the courtroom on Tinian.

The charges stemmed from the affidavit filled by Police Officer Barbara K. Arend of the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division on Tinian.

Arend stated that at about 3:08 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2008, they received a call for assistance from a female informing them that the defendant came to her office and threatened her with a knife the day before.

The victim later showed police officers a bruise on her right underarm from a previous argument with the defendant.

Arend said the victim told her that about 9:15 a.m. on July 31, 2008, the defendant came to her office and stabbed a knife on top of her table, demanding why she didn’t come home the night before.

The victim said the defendant opened the drawers and doors in her office as if he was looking for something.

She added that the defendant also entered the office of her employer.

The victim told the police that the defendant picked her up from work at about 11:30 p.m. on July 29.

She said she told the defendant she had to change shifts with her co-worker but the defendant said no.

She added that the defendant started looking for kiss marks on her, pushed her against the cabinet and started yelling profanities at her.

She said he also slapped her on the face.

The victim added that during previous fights, the defendant inflicted physical abuse on her and even flicked a burning cigarette to her face.
