Semmy S. Borja was arrested on the charge of disturbing the peace on Sept. 2.
It was Borja’s mother, Erlyne Simer Borja, who called 911 and reported the incident that happened at their residence in Koblerville.
Detective Patrick Sablan said prior to the incident, Semmy Borja borrowed money from his mother who gave him $5. He then left their residence.
Mrs. Borja later heard her youngest son shouting that Semmy Borja had returned and was going to hang himself.
Another younger brother removed the rope from Semmy Borja’s neck. The defendant got upset and started a fight with his brother, police said.
Semmy Borja immediately left their residence when he learned that his mother had called the police.
Sablan said Mrs. Borja told Officer Anthony Alepuyo that Semmy Borja had threatened to kill her.
Mrs. Borja said she felt threatened by Semmy Borja, and that she was afraid he might hurt their other family members.
Last July, Mrs. Borja said Semmy Borja got angry after she did not give him money.
Last month, Mrs. Borja said there were three separate occasions when she refused to give him money.
She told police he got upset and started shouting and threatening her.
Semmy Borja also kicked the dining table and punched the walls inside their house, his mother told police.
During the defendant’s initial court appearance yesterday, Judge David A. Wiseman required Semmy Borja to post $100 cash bail as 10 percent of $1,000, and the remainder $900 as unsecured or appearance bond.
