Manalo to serve 3 months for unlawful taking

Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona sentenced Manalo, 30, to five years imprisonment, all suspended, except for three months to be served without the possibility of parole.

Manglona credited one day already served by Manalo at the Department of Corrections facility.

Manalo will start serving the remainder of his jail term on July 19, 2010, according to Manglona.

Assistant Attorney General William H. Downer, who prosecuted the case, and Assistant Public Defender Matthew Holley, Manalo’s counsel, earlier informed Manglona that the defendant had signed a plea agreement admitting his guilt.

Manglona then dismissed with prejudice the remaining charges against Manalo.

Manalo did not turn over $7,100, representing total payments of apartment rentals he received for his employer, Dr. Gene S. Eagle-Oden, according to the prosecution.

Manglona directed Manalo to pay restitution to his victim.

She said Manalo will also be placed on supervised probation for five years under the direction and supervision of the Adult Probation Office.

He will pay a $100 court assessment fee within 30 days of his sentencing.

His probation fee will be assessed by the probation office.

Manalo will perform 100 hours of community service, write a public letter of apology to the citizens of the commonwealth, and obey CNMI and federal laws.
