“A lot of credit should go to Walter,” she said, referring to Walter Manglona, the center’s program coordinator.
Mondala said the council was able to make money from the “Manamko’ Amazing Show.”
The success of the show was unexpected since only 30 tickets were sold after two months of fund-raising efforts, Manglona said.
However, at the last minute, some of the congregates themselves and Rep. Joseph M. Palacios, R-Saipan, bought tickets.
Manglona thanked the Senior Citizens Advisory Council headed by Teresita Sorroza and the congregates for their fundraising efforts.
The manamko’ have raised $10,000, he added.
“We thank the community for helping us. We assure them that each single cent will be used for the programs of the center,” he said.
Yesterday, Sorroza said they started distributing the prizes for the 2011 Manamko’ King and Queen raffle draw held on June 1.
Since they failed to solicit prizes from the business community, she said they only had two prizes for the raffle draw: $250 and $500.
However, congregates decided to donate items as consolation prizes, she said.
Sorroza donated a brand new juicer and three brand new shirts. Remy Bowie donated a sterling silver bracelet; Darlene Cabrera, a gold necklace with pendant and flower plant; Bonita Cepeda, three 14k gold rings; Felisa Baza, a bag of candies; Christiana Michael, a rice cooker; Meryalen Conrad, clothes; Siyau Muna, a live pig; council vice president Jose Torres, a portable stove.
Manglona, a recording musician and performer, donated his latest CD.
Sorroza said Nini Taitano won the $250 baby grand prize while Emily Marcelo won the $500 grand prize.
Yesterday, the council distributed other consolation prizes.
