Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona granted stipulation of both counsels to continue the sentencing on Nov. 22, 2011.
Last July, Honglian Cheng pleaded guilty to the charge of foreign labor contracting fraud conspiracy.
Colin Thompson, who is Honglian Cheng’s court-appointed defense attorney, requested more time to prepare for the sentencing hearing.
Thompson said his client does not expect to request any further extensions of her sentencing hearing, and “requests the continuance in good faith and not for the purpose of unnecessary delay.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly R. McCallum replaced Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk W. Schuler as prosecutor in this case.
Honglian Cheng was responsible for bringing to Saipan six persons who were recruited in China, while Li Hua, a co-defendant, was the one who recruited the victims in China.
The victims are now undergoing deportation process after they have all pleaded guilty in federal court to improper entry.
