Manila’s sentencing postponed anew

THE Superior Court yesterday canceled the sentencing of a man who was convicted for the death of an infant to allow his attorney to review court documents.

Associate Judge Virginia Sablan-Onerheim granted the request of Danilo Aguilar, counsel for defendant Reynaldo Atrero Manila, to give him two weeks to look into the documents, including the tapes during the jury trial.

Sablan-Onerheim also ruled that based on the findings of Dr. Anthony Bottone, a trained psychiatrist, the court determined that Manila was competent during the trial and is competent for sentencing.

The judge ordered the Probation Office to file a supplemental report to give Manila opportunity to talk and to collect more background information about him.

Six-month-old Nina Ricci died on Nov. 6, 2000 reportedly due to the “shaken baby syndrome.” Manila was her baby-sitter at the time.
