They are hoping to equal, if not beat, last year’s $71,000 collection this month.
MMAC 2009 chairman David Rosario said this year, they are able to get the participation of IT&E and Docomo Pacific as well as the Banks of Saipan, Guam and Hawaii.
“This means so much for us, and we are counting on the support of the whole community,” Rosario said.
He said there are more than 200 cancer survivors in the CNMI but not everyone is willing to come out in the open.
He said last year, only about 50 cancer survivors joined the march, but six of the cancer survivors had already passed away.
Jack Hardy of the MMAC committee said all the proceeds of the event will benefit the local cancer society.
He said in four years, over $250,000 had been collected from the march.
Hardy said like in the previous years, each cancer survivor who shows up for the march will be given a customized medallion
On Friday, the Durables Club of the DFS Galleria Saipan made a $1,000 donation to the MMAC.
“This generous donation from DFS caught us by surprise, but then DFS has been a loyal supporter and major sponsor since Day One of the MMAC,” Rosario said.
DFS area manager for Saipan and Palau Shogo Ando and DFS assistant manager Ben Babauta represented the DFS Association of Employees.
“We are glad to continually support the cause for the cancer victims in the CNMI, and we would like to encourage friends and families to join us,” Ando said.
Babauta said the Durables Club, or those employees who had been with the company for over five years, has about 130 members.
