Following a three-year process of improvement, Marshall Islands High School received the stamp of approval from the U.S.-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The high school, founded in 1963, has about 1,000 students in this western Pacific nation¹s capital.
It joins two private schools the Catholic-run Assumption Schools and non-religious Majuro Cooperative School as WASC accredited institutions in the Marshall Islands. Only one other public school Palau High School in the three U.S.-affiliated countries of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Palau has U.S. accreditation. The Catholic-run Xavier High School in Chuuk, one of four states in the FSM, is the other WASC accredited institution in these three nations.
Marshall Islands High School, located in Majuro, Marshall Islands, is WASC accredited, WASC’s special visit/substantive change visit coordinator Cris Lunny said Thursday. The school’s current term of accreditation is effective through June 30, 2012.
Marshall Islands High School principal Gary Uneo praised the accreditation process saying everyone at his school grew and learned from it.
