Matua Riders gives early Christmas gifts to Man‘amko

The Matua Riders, led by its president Edward Flores, visited the center as part of its annual Christmas treat to the man‘amko.

They brought with them paper bags containing healthy foods, such as fruits and juices.

Last week, students of Saipan Community School entertained senior citizens with a mini-musical Christmas concert.

Office on Aging director Rose Mondala welcomed and expressed her appreciation to the group.

The Matua Riders, a group of motorcycle enthusiasts on Saipan, also brought with them the Kung Flu mascot.

The group has been assisting the Department of Public Health in the anti-flu campaign.

Vicente Sablan, an officer of the Matua Riders, said it was their third visit to the center.

Other members of the group are Pete Guerrero, Pete Togawa, John Kapileo, Clint Castro, Jovie Flores, John Castro and James Ada.

Guerrero said they are very proud to have Clint Castro, a U.S. Army recruiter, joining the group.

Castro has also been doing community services such as cleanup in churches and libraries, he said.

“This is our way of giving back to the community,” Guerrero said.

Saipan Seniors Advisory Council chair Teresita Sorroza said the visit of Matua Riders is a “sign that you love us.”

“We are very thankful for remembering us always, especially on the holiday season,” she said.

During the program, the center’s singing group presented Christmas songs to the Matua Riders.

Walter Manglona, aging center program coordinator, said they are getting visitors and regular Christmas greeters almost every day.

The whole month of December is usually dedicated to special events with different groups who visited the center to give man‘amko gifts, he said.
