Matubis took his own life, according to the findings of Guam-based forensic pathologist Dr. Aurelio Espinola.
Arnold Matubis, the brother of Alex Matubis, told Variety yesterday that there were some discrepancies in the report about his brother’s death. He declined to elaborate.
On Wednesday, he said the Attorney General’s Office handed to him the official forensic report.
The Department of Public Safety, however, has yet to provide him a copy of its report.
Arnold Matubis said he is asking the Philippine Consulate General to assist him in dealing with the AGO.
He said it was Alex Matubis’ wife, Malou, who asked the Philippine government to look into the forensic report.
In an earlier interview, Mrs. Matubis said she did not believe that her husband took his own life.
“Alex is a family man and he loves his family,” she said.
Arnold Matubis said the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs wants to see the investigation and forensic reports before it decide on whether to request a reinvestigation of the case.
Arnold Matubis said he will bring the skeletal remains and other belongings of his brother back to Philippines on March 25.
The remains will be turned over to the Philippine National Police, he added.
Arnold Matubis said he has asked the AGO to honor a request for a re-investigation of the case.
Castro & Associates, which employed Alex Matubis as a draftsman, is coordinating with his family for the transfer of his belongings.
In an e-mail, the management of Castro & Associates said it is “trying to help with whatever it could, like shipping Alex’s clothes and other personal belongings to [the Philippines] through his brother Arnold.”
“Plans and details on the repatriation of Alex’s remains are also being discussed with Arnold and Mrs. Matubis,” the employer said.
Castro & Associates said it has remitted payments to Mrs. Matubis and will continue to do so until Alex Matubis’ wages are settled.
“She lets us know when she needs money for the kids’ school expenses,” Castro & Associates said, referring to Mrs. Matubis.
