MARIE Muna, chair of the public service recognition committee, held a press conference at the Office of Personnel Management in Gualo Rai on Tuesday, April 23 alongside her co-chair Dencio Manglona to announce the upcoming activities for Public Service Recognition Week.

This year’s Public Service Recognition Week, with the theme, “United We Serve for a Greater Commonwealth,” is set for May 6-10.

Manglona said the week honors employees of the CNMI government.

“This process over the past couple of months has been a transformative moment, where we take the spotlight and shine it on people who often aren’t seen but keep the CNMI going,” he said.

Joining Muna and Manglona at the press conference were the acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, Joseph Pangelinan, and CNMI Civil Service Commission Chairman Raymond Muna.

Marie Muna said the week’s activities will begin with a proclamation signing at the multi-purpose center in Susupe at 2 p.m. on May 1.

During the weeklong celebration honoring public service, the committee or its representatives will visit the different government agencies on Saipan, Tinian and Rota to present certificates of recognition to the longest serving employees of each island.

The committee will also award the department or division employees of the year as well as the outstanding managers who will all vie for the overall CNMI Employee of the Year Award to be announced on Labor Day in September.

Marie Muna said the committee will also host a softball tournament on May 6 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Government employees deserve to be celebrated according to Raymond Muna.

“We’re recognizing our government employees because they deserve that recognition. In trying times there are better opportunities in other islands or the United States, but they choose to stay here because this is home. This is our way of recognizing their efforts,” he said.
