Joeten Motors led the way with 20 new car sales and was the only dealership to post a positive gain with a 54 percent increase in sales. Microl experienced a minor drop of 5 percent in sales with 19 units while Triple J Motors sold nine units, representing a 57 percent decrease compared to last year.
CADA president and general manager of Joeten Motors, Matthew Deets said he is not surprised to see the sales volumes declining a little.
“With everything that is going on in the market right now we expect to see some shrinkage but not the dramatic declines we experienced last year,” Deets said.
He added that so far this year, the new car market is only down by 3.6 percent.
“I still have a positive outlook that sales will improve slightly over the next few months compared to last year,” Deets added.
He said another factor was a lack of inventory — a few more units could have been sold but some dealers were waiting to receive new stock.
The most popular sedan in May was the Toyota Yaris with seven units sold. The Ford Ranger ruled the truck market with four units.
A total of three vans were sold and among SUVs, the Honda CR-V edged out the competition with two units sold.
Joeten Motors is the distributor for Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia. Microl Toyota distributes Toyota and Chevrolet while Triple J sells Mazda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Suzuki.
