“The kids really enjoyed staying with their host families,” the mayor said.
On Dec. 28, the mayor’s office hosted a welcome party for the 20 cultural exchange students with the International Youth Association of Japan/Kokusai Seishonen Kenshu Kyokai or KSKK at Fiesta Resort & Spa.
Apatang said the KSKK students are from various cities in Japan.
“We asked them to take many pictures and to show the photos to their family members and friends so they, too, will want to visit Saipan in the future,” the mayor said.
He also informed the Japanese students about Skymark Airline’s regular flight service from Narita to Saipan, which has made the island more accessible to visitors from Japan.
The mayor’s student exchange coordinator, Yuki Kishimoto, said the Japanese students arrived on Dec. 28 and left on Jan. 1.
While here, they visited the island’s various historical and tourist spots, she added.
In November, the mayor’s office sent 15 local students to Japan as part of the KSKK cultural exchange program.
