Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s state of emergency declaration allows SEAS to continue its operations despite the Department of Labor’s order revoking its work permits, Mendiola said.
SEAS officials have already communicated with Rota Health Center resident director Crispin Ayuyu regarding the renewal of the nurses’ contracts, he added.
The contracts of five nurses hired through SEAS expired in June.
The contracts of three others will expire in July, September and October. Two were hired last December.
On July 16, some of the nurses with expired contracts were allowed to report back to work, Variety was told.
Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez visited the Rota Health Center last week.
He conducted an ocular inspection to know the needs of the center, Mendiola said.
The mayor is still pursuing his request to the central government to hire directly the nurses.
“The uniformity and centralization of the system in the operation of the health center is very necessary,” he said.
In the meantime, he added, they will work with “anything that will ensure normal operation at the health center.”
