Starting today, however, the mayor will no longer provide such services to the community due to budget constraints.
“We expect negative feedback but we hope the community understand us,” said Vinycia Seman, the mayor’s executive secretary.
She said they will now retrieve the tables and benches that were already delivered to private homes.
These will be used for official functions of the mayor’s office only.
The office has 30 tables but some of them are already old and broken, Seman said.
She said they sometimes had a hard time getting back the tables because, sometimes, those who requested them would later transfer the tables to other places for use of family members.
In an earlier interview, Mayor Donald G. Flores said they should not compete with private businesses that offer tents and tables for rent.
Seman said the mayor’s office will continue its other services such as the delivery of water and coral road repair as well as trimming of overgrown vegetation and cutting down dead trees.
From Oct. 2010 to August this year, the mayor’s office received 254 requests for table and bench deliveries.
Because of budget constraints, the mayor’s office started collecting a fee for the delivery of tables last June.
In November, the office stopped delivering tables and benches during weekends.
