McPhetres explains students’ involvement in voter accessibility survey

The survey is derived from the Election Enhancement Project proposed by the Commonwealth Election Commission, the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities, and the Northern Marianas College University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

The students were trained on how to recognize and interact with people with disabilities by the Northern Marianas Protection & Advocacy Systems Inc.

McPhetres said Floyd Masga, program manager of the Community Development Institute, was also involved in coordinating the event.

Variety was unable to get a comment from Masga due to government offices being closed yesterday in observance of Citizenship Day.

Participants from the Current Issues class would receive extra credit toward their final class grade for their service.

McPhetres said the students were very enthusiastic in having the opportunity to be a part of helping to gather  data from the public to make an important change in voting accessibility in the CNMI.

The class has no further involvement with the data derived from the survey.
