Rima Ravusiro said he was waiting for a briefing from Vanuatu’s Prime Minister Edward Natapei about last week’s Pacific Forum leaders meeting in PNG on the Fiji situation.
Natapei, who is also the MSG chairman, said Vanuatu stands firm by the latest Forum leaders decision that targeted measures will be taken against Fiji unless the interim regime nominates a 2009 election date by May the first.
Ravusiro told Radio New Zealand International the Melanesian leaders may soon hold talks on Fiji.
“We do realize that we also need to discuss the Fiji situation within the MSG group that is acknowledged,” Ravusiro said. “Allow us some time to look at some of the issues that have been discussed already, get some assessment of it and see how the Melanesians can contribute to this whole process as a group from a Melanesian point of view and see if we can take it further from that. The call is now with the chairman of our leaders summit, which is the prime minister of Vanuatu.”
