SENATE President Dennis James C. Mendiola appointed Sen. Corina L. Magofna on Friday to represent the 24th Senate on the CNMI State Workforce Development Board.

In his letter to Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, Mendiola said Workforce Investment Agency Director Frances A. Torres informed him that there was a request for an appointment of a senator to the board.

Mendiola also issued a memorandum Friday, informing Magofna that he was appointing her to the board.

He cited the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, which mandates that the state board include a member of the Legislature appointed by a presiding officer.

“Senator Magofna’s current position as chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Resources, Economic Development, and Workforce makes her an excellent fit for this role,” the Senate president said in his letter to the governor.

Mendiola noted that Magofna previously chaired the Resources, Economic Development, Programs and Gaming Committee in the 23rd Senate. “Her extensive experience and strong commitment to workforce development make her a valuable asset to the board,” he said.

Mendiola said he is confident that the CNMI State Workforce Development Board, with Magofna’s contributions, will advance workforce development efforts that will benefit the Commonwealth.
