MHS aviation class meets TSA

The class was given a firsthand tour on  basic TSA operation and what a passenger is allowed to take on board a plane.

Raulerson told Variety that he gives his students a firsthand point of view of what he taught them.

Prior to 9/11, TSA was not a major part of the airlines. Learning about TSA today is a crucial part of learning about the airlines, Raulerson said.

He said his students learned the important role TSA plays in assuring a safe flight for the pilot and his passengers.

The class has already completed aviation physics and is currently studying aerodynamics.

MHS principal Craig Garrison, who gave Raulerson the opportunity to teach the class, has given the “Aeronautical Dolphins” his full support.

He is currently looking into the possibility of purchasing a C172 G1000 iGATE flight simulator.

Garrison said  this unit will enhance the aviation experience of each student because it will allow them to control an aircraft in real time situations.

According to Raulerson, students will need to know how to configure the aircraft for take-off, cruise, and landing phases.  Students should also know which instrument to monitor during different phases of the flight.

Andersen Air Force Base on Guam has given the class a tentative invitation to visit its facilities and talk to the military personnel there.

Delta Airlines has also shown some interest in meeting with the class.

“We, as a class, are currently fundraising to acquire the funding needed to travel to Guam, which will greatly enhance the learning potential of the ‘Aeronautical Dolphins,’” Raulerson told Variety.

“The class doesn’t stop in the classroom because my students thirst for more knowledge,” Raulerson said adding, “It’s not unusual for me and my students to talk about aviation while I am taking them home in the school van. These ‘Aeronautical Dolphins’ are a special group of students and I am doing my best to provide each of them with quality aeronautical education.”
