MHS sidewalk project receives over 50 bags of cement

The contributors were Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan, the Northern Marianas Badminton Association, the Northern Marianas Football Association and some parents.

Attorney Teresa Kim-Tenorio, a parent of an MHS student, acknowledged school principal Craig Garrison’s commitment to improving the safety of the school:

“Mr. Garrison just grabbed the bulls by the horn and in a short amount of time he’s done so much for our students already. This is my fifth year of having a child here at MHS. The school means a lot to me and whatever we (the parents) can do for the school we have to do our part as well.”

“I’ve got commitments from other parents and Trench Tech will be donating as well,” she added.

Jerry Tan of Tan Holdings was also present to commend Garrison and his staff.

“This is the largest public school on island with 1,500 students. Our sports organizations not only  play sports but we also help the community. So if you call for help, we look into our resources which are limited, but we do our part to help the schools,” Tan said.

One of Garrison’s new projects is to construct stepping stones through the muddiest area which is located at one of the drop-off zones so students can avoid having their shoes and pants muddy and soaking wet.

The main point of the sidewalk project is to repair the hazardous cracks on the sidewalks and provide new sidewalk structures to improve safety levels on campus.

“The sidewalk project will be receiving about 100 more bags of cement from the Saipan Southern community.

Marianas High School has a long history of good parent and community participation,” Garrison told Variety in an interview.

He added, “Businessman Tony Pellegrino came down to offer his masonry crew to assist with the resurfacing and realignment of all the sidewalks. I’m very grateful for all the help we’re receiving. It is the resources I need, not the money. There are many people in the community and that’s what I need — manpower and resources. Not money,” he added.
