KOROR (Palau Horizon) —Representatives from 16 states attended a workshop on how state governments could apply for foreign grants to finance state projects.
The workshop was held following an earlier statement from the Ministry of State that it would vigorously initiate dialogues with foreign nations in securing aid and grants to help supplement the government’s existing budget.
The purpose of the seminar was to inform the participants of the availability of foreign grants and help them prepare requests or applications for grants.
The ministry urged the 16 state governments to actively participate in the workshop.
It is important that each state coordinates with the ministry to pursue plans to actively obtain grants and aid from off-island organizations, the ministry said.
During the workshop, U.S. Charge d’Affaires Ronald Harma, Taiwan Ambassador Clark K.H. Chen, Philippine Ambassador Leoncio Parungao Jr. and Japan Charge d’Affaires Yoshio Koshio were invited as resource persons.
The four discussed technical assistance, grants and other services available in their countries and the requirements for acquiring them.
Minister of State Temmy Shmull said the government will “strengthen” its efforts to obtain funding from the 29 countries that have diplomatic ties with Palau.
