Minors patronize poker arcades

An out of school youth from Garapan said he usually spends his afternoon in a poker room.

He said he sometimes win over $100.

“It’s not illegal unless the police catch you doing it,” he added.

He said most of his friends, 16 to 18 years old, join him at a poker arcade in Garapan.

The management, he added, does not ask for their ages.

When asked why he plays poker, he answered: “I need money for my skateboard.”

He said playing poker also serves as his leisure activity.

“It’s fun,” he said.

Three of his friends interviewed by this reporter said they can enter poker rooms without the management bothering them.

Another group of students said they can also order alcoholic drinks at clubs.

“Nobody has kicked me out there yet,” one of them said.

One of her friends said an adult companion usually buys drinks for him and the management does not mind him drinking.
