Miss Hong Kong contestants to visit NMI

MISS Hong Kong Pageant officials and contestants as well as Hong Kong-based reporters will arrive on Saipan beginning Sunday.

Marianas Visitors Authority Deputy Managing Director Vicky I. Benavente said the Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2002 organizers have confirmed that the group will arrive on Sunday.

The group is composed of 40 people including about 20 contestants.

“They made a telephone call that they will come to (the Northern) Marianas. They will be here Sunday night while the contestants will arrive two days later,” she told Variety.

Benavente said Hong Kong photographers will take pictures of the contestants posing at the various Saipan and Tinian tourists spots.

The pageant organizers earlier planned to do the shooting on Guam, but they changed the venue and decided to do it in the Northern Marianas, Benavente said.

Benavente said MVA is looking forward to welcoming the group.

She said it would be another opportunity to promote the CNMI overseas.

“We’re excited about it. We’ll be assisting them. In return, what we’d get is the exposure during the filming of the pageant,” she said.

Benavente said MVA requested that the film or video become a property of the agency.
