The Miss World franchise owner and honorary president is Guam Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo.
In a written statement read by Linda Salas, president of the board of directors for the pageant, Bordallo apologized for not being present due to important matters being discussed in the U.S. Congress, but expressed her confidence in the board members’ commitment to making the pageant a success. The last Miss World Guam pageant was held in 1996.
Pageant director Pinky Lujan said the pageant returns at a time when the Miss World pageant will be returning to its home in London to celebrate its 60th birthday. They currently are seeking contestants between the ages of 17 and 24 who are single and have no children.
The deadline to apply is June 30. Twenty girls will make the cut. The pageant is set for Aug. 31 at the University of Guam Field House.
