More budget cuts

Inos in an interview yesterday said the administration has just completed the June revenue collection so they still cannot determine exactly how much to cut further.

But considering the continuous decline in government  financial resources, Inos said further reductions in the remaining months of FY 2011 “could happen.”

From $132 million, the FY 2011 budget went down to $122 million last April.

For FY 2012, which starts on Oct. 1, the administration proposed a $102 million budget, but some lawmakers said the real figure could be as low as $95 million “or less.”

Speaker Eli D. Cabrera, R-Saipan, in a separate interview said he has been expecting more reduction in the current fiscal year’s appropriation.

If the government cash flow does not improve, he expects the FY 2011 budget will be reduced by about $15 million.

The administration also is expected to change its $102 million projection for the FY 2012 budget which was first proposed last April 1.
