More health programs for Filipino workers

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration welfare officer Reynaldo D. Tayag said they will also ask the assistance of Filipino organizations on island.

He noted that the Marianas Medical Center wants to conduct lectures on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, blood testing, sexually transmitted diseases, drinking and smoking.

Arthur Tagum of MMC said there’s a need for a continuous awareness and prevention program for the Filipino workers, some of whom are suffering from ailments that could have been prevented if they were more health-conscious.

Tagum said MMC is willing to conduct lectures during the free medical screenings scheduled by the Philippine Consulate General, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and OWWA at the Filipino Workers Resource Center at the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe.

Last year, MMC facilitated a cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR training for Filipino workers.

Tayag said his office is willing to seek MMC’s assistance in extending health services to the Filipino community.

The leaders of the various Filipino organizations will be asked to attend these health lectures and  relay what they have learned to their members, he added.
