The village had 2,300 registered voters of whom 75 percent participated in this year’s general elections, he added.
This, he noted, was remarkably high compared to previous elections.
In the 2007 House race in Kagman, the winning candidate received less than 600 votes.
Bennett said the election process in Kagman went well on Saturday.
“There was no trouble,” he added.
Supporters of Democratic mayoral candidate Angelo O’Connor Villagomez and those of the Republican and Covenant parties gathered on the street leading to the community center to wave campaign signs at passersby.
Eleven people interviewed by this reporter said they were confident that gubernatorial candidate Heinz S. Hofschneider of the GOP would win while seven people said they wanted Gov. Benigno R. Fitial to be re-elected.
“Let’s not be fooled by the Covenant again,” Martha Cabrera, 53, said, referring to the ruling party.
According to her, she voted for Fitial in the 2005 elections but was disappointed with his performance.
Another resident who declined to be identified said Fitial should win so that his aunt would continue working for the governor’s Office.
“[If] Fitial loses, she’ll lose her job too,” he said.
Hofschneider beat Fitial in Precinct 5 — by eight votes: 648 to 640.
Former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero finished third with 286, while former Sen. Ramon S. Deleon Guerrero was last with 213.
