Motorist accused of assaulting cop

THE Attorney General’s Office has filed criminal charges against a motorist who allegedly assaulted a police officer.

Lin Jiang, 30, was charged with assault and battery, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and pedestrian right of way.

Superior Court Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama set a $1,250 cash bail for Lin’s temporary release. Preliminary hearing was set for May 15.

Assistant Attorney General David M. Walsh said that last May 2, the defendant “did unlawfully strike, beat, wound, or otherwise do bodily harm to Police Officer Anthony Macaranas.”

Walsh alleged that Lin “did unlawfully and willfully resist, delay and obstruct Macaranas…in the discharge and attempt to discharge the duties of his office by refusing to submit to an arrest.”

The defendant allegedly failed to yield to a pedestrian crossing the road.

In other news, AGO charged two women for allegedly assaulting two men in separate incidents last Feb. 2 and Feb. 5.

Carmen Aldan Villano and Annette Worswick were charged with assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

Both defendants were ordered to appear and answer the charges in Superior Court on May 20.
