THE Marianas Visitors Authority is tapping more local talent to help promote The Marianas with Marianas-made social media content.

The MVA’s Japan Ad Hoc committee has recently selected local resident YouTuber Naoki Oura to give a hometown introduction of some of the best highlights of The Marianas to potential Japanese visitors.

“Who better to introduce the best of The Marianas people and places to Japanese speakers than a fellow countryman who has made Saipan his home for 22 years?” said MVA Marketing Manager Thomas Kim. “We’re delighted to have the enthusiastic support of Naoki in sharing authentic experiences in our islands. And his friendly disposition is a great representation of what Japanese visitors can expect from our community when they visit.”

Oura began his content creation in April, and his promotions will also include hotel stays and other giveaways.

“By showcasing beautiful landscapes, activities, culture, and food, we will encourage Japanese travelers to visit and revitalize the tourism industry” Oura had stated, adding he aimed to introduce the destination as a “familiar and attractive travel destination for Japanese people.”

Oura will walk potential visitors through the Saipan International Airport immigration and airport experience to allay any uncertainties, conduct interviews with chefs and food experts in showing local restaurants and cafes, and introduce various tours and activities. The channel will also highlight accommodation options suitable for different types of travelers, provide insight into various local events and cultural experiences, and more.

Kim said the channel will also partner with popular YouTubers and influencers in Japan to reach a broader audience and enhance the promotional efforts.

To encourage even more user-generated content posts, MVA is also accepting entries for its ongoing “The Marianas Experience” video challenge. The theme is, “The Perfect 4-Day Getaway on Saipan, Tinian, or Rota,” and MVA is looking for vibrant videos that showcase cultural experiences, breathtaking natural beauty, delicious local flavors, thrilling activities, historical sites, and hidden gems that make each island unforgettable. A $500 cash prize will be awarded for the best 1-minute video featuring each of the three main islands, and the video may be used in further MVA promotions.
