N. Islands mayor requests $240K from lawmakers

NORTHERN Islands Mayor Valentin I. Taisakan is requesting the Saipan and Northern Island legislative delegation to appropriate $240,000 for at least four projects.

Taisakan, in a recent letter, informed the delegation chairman, Sen. Pete P. Reyes, R-Saipan, that his office needs $100,000 for the Northern Islands re-supply trip; $30,000 for office repair and renovation; $30,000 for the Northern Islands guest house repair and renovation; and $80,000 for marketing and professional services.

The mayor said the funding for the re-supply trip will be needed to charter vessels carrying supplies from Saipan to Anatahan, Alamagan, Pagan and Agrigan. The vessels will also bring building and construction materials necessary for the Anatahan school project and for resettlement in the Northern Islands.

The repair and renovation of the Northern Islands municipality office will consist of electrical wirings, ceiling repairs, toilet plumbing as well as the purchase of water tanks and air-conditioning systems, Taisakan said.
