Naval chief invited to NMI Veterans Day rites

Headed by Military and Veterans Affairs Office Executive Officer Ruth Coleman, the organizing committee has been holding meetings every Tuesday.

The members include Joe Villagomez, former Rep. Frank G. Cepeda, Raffy Perry, Sgt. Major Kiyoshi and Woody Woodruff.

Coleman said this year, they want to do “something different.”

Instead of focusing on those who have lost their lives in war, this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony, Coleman said, will also be about “remembering and honoring all living veterans.”

World War II

veterans will be among the special guests in this year’s  ceremony.

The CNMI has five Marine Scouts who are still alive today. They are Manny “Kiyu” Villagomez, Santiago Babauta, Ignacio Sablan, Antonio Tenorio and Nicolas Muna.

Coleman said the governor will sign a Veterans Day proclamation a week before the ceremony.
