KOROR (Palau Horizon) — Palau National Communications Corp. has advised Internet users to be wary of electronic mail messages due to the rise in computer virus infection reports.
Computer shops in Palau had been flooded with computers that needed repairs due to computer virus attacks.
Many computer owners have asked for repairs due to corruption of files.
Ed Carter, PNCC general manager, said there was a rash of computer virus attack worldwide.
Carter cautioned Internet users to be suspicious of e-mail messages and delete those immediately to prevent the virus from spreading.
Carter said on a daily basis, PNCC blocks up to 300 viruses. The new computer virus has no built-in protection yet, he added.
The Klez Worm is on top of the list of computer viruses. Klez infects computers by spreading to new hosts e-mail messages with attachments. Microsoft’s Outlook software is particularly vulnerable because it allows the worm to activate even if the user has not clicked on anything and go through network-shared drives, which infects other users.
