New Caledonia earmarks $208,000 for Fiji flood victims

The financial aid was passed unanimously at the latest sitting of New Caledonia’s territorial assembly on Friday.

The package was endorsed under New Caledonia’s “regional cooperation” powers and will be transferred to the French embassy in Suva, for the benefit of Fiji’s disaster-stricken populations, the Congress of New Caledonia also resolved.

It was responding to New Caledonia’s President Harold Martin, who later raised the matter with the French Pacific territory’s parliament.
