“It’s a shame that we have not used it,” Department of Public Health acting Secretary Pedro Untalan said, referring to the center.
Currently, CHC is providing three-shift hemodialysis treatment for kidney patients, he added.
Untalan, in a media conference on Friday, assured the public that “we are moving forward” in addressing kidney patients’ concerns as well as the hiring of personnel to further improve the delivery of public health services.
He said a nephrologist will join CHC’s dialysis center on Sept. 23, but will stay for about two and a half months.
Currently, a CHC consultant based on Guam is providing advice through telephone.
Untalan said the infrastructure component of the newly built dialysis center is almost complete and new equipment will arrive within the next five weeks.
The water supply for hemodialysis treatment, moreover, has improved, he added.
