New law allots $400,000 for Rota’s use

House Bill 16-186, which is now Public Law 16-24, was sponsored by House Floor Leader Joseph N. Camacho, R-Saipan, and Rep. Victor B. Hocog, Ind.-Rota.

The new law mandates that the $400,000 from the interest earned by the Commonwealth Development Authority bonds held in the Bank of Guam be used to finance different projects in Rota.

A quarter of a million dollars will go to Sinapalo Elementary School for its perimeter fencing and other facility improvement projects.

The Department of Lands and Natural Resources’ office on Rota will get $150,000 to buy new tractors.

The governor separately signed House Bill 16-176, now into Public Law 16-25, which mandates the consent of the Senate for new appointees to the Health Care Professions Licensing Board.

Hocog and eight other House lawmakers sponsored the bill.

The new law mandates the board to have five members —one should be a dentist, two should be physicians and two health care professionals in other fields of expertise.

Each should be practicing in the commonwealth and should have been a resident here for at least two years.
