New NMC student leaders elected

• President: Antonio V. Tiples, IV, Liberal Arts Major

• Vice President: Maria B. Calilong, Liberal Arts Major

• Secretary:  Ian Carr, Criminal Justice Major

• Treasurer:  Ki Young Kim, Nursing Major

The election of officers was held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 0 at NMC’s student center. The investiture ceremony was held on Monday, Sept. 27, in Room D1.

In accordance with its constitution, the purpose of ASNMC is: 1) to prepare students of NMC to take their places as responsible citizens in a democracy by providing educational, social, recreational, and cultural experiences; 2) to promote the unity of purpose and fellowship among the students of NMC; 3) to serve as the focus and unifying force of all student activities and to support campus organizations; 4) to develop individual leadership qualities by encouraging participation in college and community governance and student organizations; and 5) to provide for the welfare of the students of NMC.

“We are proud of the newly-elected officers and congratulate them on their election,” said interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera. “The ASNMC leaders play an important role on many levels at the college. We look forward to working with them as we continue to advance the college’s mission.”

“Though helping lead a student body of college students would be a new challenge, I look forward to the opportunity to learn and experience all the obstacles to come,” said new ASNMC president Antonio Tiples.

In prior years, officers of ASNMC have actively participated in the planning of major college events, including Charter Day, NMC’s largest annual event. They have also organized forums that include debates among political candidates seeking public office.
